Hints and Tips

New to archery

Terminology - You can download “The Archers Reference Guide” totally free of charge from http://onlinearchery.org.uk  this is a 45 page booklet in .pdf (Acrobat Reader) which will help you understand a lot of everyday terms used in archery.

Equipment - There is a vast array of equipment available to the archer, you can view on-line, order a paper version or instantly download a catalogue in .pdf format from http://quicks.com/catafram.htm this will give you a good idea of what is about.  However it is a good idea when purchasing your first bow to personally visit a shop which has a practice range so that you can ” try before you buy” your new bow etc.

First Bow - When you purchase your first bow the basic equipment required is A bow (a spare string, as they can break), A set of Arrows, A Quiver & Belt, An Arm Guard and finally A Finger Tab / Shooting Glove. Other bits and bobs that are useful but not vital are an arrow puller for as the name suggests pulling your arrows out of the targets, a tassel for cleaning your arrows, an arrow rake for finding your arrows and a knife with a strong straight back for retrieving your arrows out of wood (please do not use on targets or target bosses).

Arrow Making (Wooden)

Use Araldite or another epoxy resin to glue your tapered brass piles to the shaft, if you use fletching glue you will probably leave your piles (points) in the target which becomes expensive.
