Lottery Award

Your club has been fortunate to be granted an “Awards for All” lottery grant of £6,500. Part of the funds will be utilised to enhance existing facilities including renovation of the Practice Range at our headquarters. The bulk of the grant monies are to be used to purchase a considerable number of brand new 3Ds. It is likely that they will be in place in good time for the club’s spring open shoot on the 27th April.

Visitors to the shoot can look forward to ‘christening’ these brand new targets! It is intended that members will have opportunity to test their skills on these acquisitions in the forthcoming new season commencing 1st April.

The committee and members are naturally delighted with this good news particularly as the club were awarded a similar grant six years ago.

Important Change in NFAS Subscription Collection

With regard to members’ NFAS subscriptions payable for season commencing 1st April 2008, the practice of the SCFA membership secretary (Hon.Treasurer) collecting them on behalf of NFAS has now ceased.

NFAS are now insisting upon their special form be completed each time for both new members, and annual renewals. We will have relevant forms on hand for members to use. Alternatively they can be downloaded from the NFAS website.

Upon completion the form has to be sent direct to them (address on the form) along with the relevant payment by the members themselves. After payment NFAS will post out their cards direct. We will have no involvement in the matter.

Subscriptions

The existing subscription tariff has been unchanged now for 5 years and at the last AGM, a proposal was carried that we modestly increase the present annual subscriptions by the sum of £5 per person and £2 for junior members. The new tariff will be:

Seniors £40
Joint category £70
Juniors – up to 18 yrs £12 .

Open Shoot

Our openshoot is on the 2nd September this year. Around 60 archers from other NFAS clubs will be competing on our course this day so the course will be closed to members. This is an important day as this is how we earn the "rent" and contribute to the NFAS community. If anyone wants to come along to see what happens they are welcome though there is relatively little to do on the day. Any offers of help should be forwarded to Course Co-ordinator Steve Whittle.

First Padfact of the Year

The first Padfact of the year which is at Lyme Valley - Nr Alsager is on the 9th September.

The PADFACTs (Potteries and District Field Archery Championship Trophy) are a series of 5 local competitions which are aimed at encouraging participation in Open Shoots. They all take place between now and December when there is a prize giving and buffet at Clayton Club. They are very friendly comps aimed at encouraging beginners, and enable you to see other shoot grounds, meet new people and enjoy Field Archery in different locations. All for £3 a comp.

Scores are accumulative but you can shoot as many or as few as you wish.

Remember that out Padfact shoot is on the 23rd September which SCFA members are allowed to shoot at.

Wednesday night meets

Well it looks like the concensus is that Wednesday would be a good night to start our mid-week club sessions off. These will run until the light fails us!. There will be an opportunity for archers to meet and shoot with other members from 1915hours each Wednesday. I think this should start informally at first but perhaps members might like to come up with ideas for the evenings. Maybe a session on the range, or the chance to shoot individually around the course or a Wednesday competition. All ideas welcome! Anyone fancy being the "Wednesday Night Activity Co-ordinator"?

South Cheshire Field Archers

Latest News

Welcome to the South Cheshire Field Archers website. We are a long established, archery club with 126 (101 Adult & 25 Junior) members of all ages and both sexes. We participate in the sport of field archery at our rented woodland in the heart of rural Cheshire.
We operate under the rules of the NFAS (National Field Archery Society).

Our members use a wide variety of bows, ranging from traditional Old English long bows to the modern 'compound' types. Our membership is open to all ages and all ethnic groups. We particularly try to foster 'family' involvement.

During the year our members participate in many contests up and down the country. We also host a number of open field archery competitions throughout the year.

We owe our success to the dedication of groups of our members who give many hours each year to make and repair targets, lay the course and change targets on a regular basis to keep the course challenging and safe.  Also to the members who work hard behind the scenes organizing shoots and generally keeping the club going.  And finally, not forgetting the members who assist as stewards on shoot days and on workdays to tidy up and move targets etc.
